"Article Number, a new-ish sneaker brand out of LA's burgeoning streetwear scene offers luxe versions of old school sneakers with a stylish, modern twist
Does the world need another upscale Stan Smith knockoff? No. (But we once made a gallery of the best ones on the market). Or at least we thought that was the answer until we spotted Article Number's take on the legendary tennis sneaker. The problem with most imitations of the iconic streamlined sneaker is that they're just that: luxe-d-up copies of the original (see: premium materials, jacked-up price tag). If you're going to go down that path, best to bring something new to the conversation, which is exactly what Article Number does with one inventive midsole. Though often overlooked in the design process, the midsole (where the upper is connected to the bottom, or sole, of a shoe) is prime real estate for a flourish, and for the Los Angeles-based brand that means making waves, literally. It's a not-seen-everywhere detail entirely indicative of the footwear label—half classic, half science-fiction futurism."
